Jackson Thomas

I have never been a person who has loved surprises, but I have to say the birth of my son three weeks early was the greatest and most wonderful surprise I think that I will ever receive. Everyone tells me that I need to share my birthing story...don't worry I'll leave out the messy details. On Monday February 4th I was feeling a little under the weather due to an over abundance of food during our friend's Super Bowl party so I decided to cancel my substitute teaching job and veg at home and rest. Well, it was a good thing that I did! At about 1 in the afternoon I decided it was nap time and when I awoke at 3 my water had started to break. I of course called the doctors office and left a message with them to see if I should just wait or if I should head up to Labor and Delivery. While I waited to hear from them I called Jason and left a message for him and sent him a text informing him of everything that was going on. Then I did the next logical thing in this situation...I jumped in the shower to shave my legs, because there was no way I was going to the hospital with hairy legs! By the time I had finished the office had called me back and said that I needed to get checked out in Labor and Delivery so I called Jason and told him "It's show time!" He got permission from his preceptor to leave early for the day so that he could take me up to the hospital. By the time we got to the Labor and Delivery floor my water had fully broken and the doctor said the words that I think excite and panic all new parents "Welcome to Labor and Delivery you are going to be staying with us for a bit." I was then wheeled up to my room and settled in and that was when I called my mother to tell her that I was in labor and that she was going to be a Grandma again soon.

After 16 1/2 hours of labor Jackson Thomas was born and he was/is perfect. Born February 5, 2013 he was 6 pounds 11.5 ounces and 19.5 inches long. I was really nervous about having him so early, but the nurses from the NICU said that he was clear and didn't have to spend any time there. After two days in the hospital they sent Jason and I home with the newest addition to our family and our lives have never been the same since. Each day I find myself just in awe of him and find myself staring at him all the time and laughing at all of his little quirks. He has recently earned the name squeaker from me because he is always making little squeaks and grunts...which are really cute during the day, I need to figure out how to make them stop at night. Jason and I have been doing well adjusting to lack of sleep, I feel bad that soon he had to go back to work and I think that's going to change up our night time routine since he will obviously need some more sleep than what he's been getting to make it through his days without an afternoon nap. Pictures will get posted soon I just have to figure out the easiest way to transfer them from Jason's computer to mine.

Nesting

Well, they said it was going to happen and by golly it did! I went through some major nesting this weekend. I think it was partially due to the fact that now my Dr.'s appointments are going to be every week and so that means that the time is getting closer so I better get ready. So this weekend I got everything together for Little L and myself. I packed his diaper bag (which Jason claims I packed way too much) and I packed my bag for the hospital (again Jason claiming that I over packed). I was able to put away all his last minute gifts that he's gotten so that way when I'm in the hospital Jason just needs to deflate the air bed I've been sleeping on and the room is ready to go.

Now today I've been feeling a little under the weather (I think it has something to do with the huge amount of Super Bowl food I ingested last night) so I'm going to start my DIY project for Little L's room. A few weeks ago I bought the letters for his name, that's right folks we have one name for our little man  and NO Mom I'm still not telling you what it is, anyway I bought the letters and now I'm going to paint them the colors of his room. I think it will be a cute little added decoration item since we are probably still going to be renters when we move and wont be able to paint the walls or anything.

My doctors appointment on Friday went well. Little L is still facing downward which I continue to pray he remains that way. His heartbeat was 144 which is average for him, I think he was resting, and he's showing no signs of coming early...yet. Like I said my doctors appointments are now going to be every week which is kind of nice because I'm such a worrier and love to go in and hear his little heartbeat. I'll keep you posted as the appointments continue.

Yesterday was a hard day in the Lehr household. The 49ers did not win the Super Bowl which made Jason a little upset. I still haven't really talked to him since it happened I have a feeling that he will need a few days of mourning on this one. However, he can't dwell on it for too long because our residency match is coming up in 7 short days. I am so nervous, excited and anxious I can't even imagine what he's thinking or feeling. I just can't wait to find out where we are off to next and where we actually get to stay for a little be longer (4 years instead of 2). It will be an exciting and stressful time for our family.

But that's all for now! Hope you all are enjoying the snowy weather...it looks like it's going to stick around a bit longer.
